Tata Rallis Benzilla is a specialized, dual-action pre-mix insecticide formulated as Benzpyrimoxan 15% + Fipronil 10% SC (Suspension Concentrate). Developed through technology licensed from Nihon Nohyaku (Japan), Benzilla delivers multi-stage knockdown and long-duration residual protection against stubborn sap-sucking pests—particularly hoppers and thrips that have developed resistance to conventional chemistries.
Dual Mode of Action
Benzpyrimoxan 15% (Novel IGR Chemistry):
Acts as an insect growth regulator (IGR) that disrupts the molting and metamorphosis cycle of target pests. It provides potent ovicidal and nymphicidal activity, preventing immature hopper nymphs from shedding their exoskeleton and maturing into reproducing adults.
Fipronil 10% (Phenylpyrazole Group - IRAC Group 2B):
Acts on the insect’s central nervous system by blocking GABA-gated chloride channels. This results in neural over-excitation, paralysis, rapid feeding cessation, and quick knockdown of adult and active stages.
The synergy between Fipronil's rapid neurotoxic action and Benzpyrimoxan’s life-cycle disruption provides both immediate kill and extended residual barrier control.
Target Crops, Pests & Recommended Dosage
Benzilla's core design targets planthoppers and leafhoppers, while Fipronil broadens its efficacy against thrips and early chewing pests.
Crop Category | Representative Crops | Target Pests | Dosage per Liter of Water | Dosage per Acre (in 150–200 L water) |
Field & Cereal Crops (Primary Target) | Paddy (Rice) | Brown Plant Hopper (BPH), White-Backed Plant Hopper (WBPH), Green Leafhopper (GLH) | 1.0 – 1.25 ml | 200 – 250 ml |
Commercial Crops | Cotton, Sugarcane | Thrips, Jassids/Leafhoppers, Early shoot borer/cane hoppers | 1.0 – 1.25 ml | 200 – 250 ml |
Vegetable Crops | Chilli, Tomato, Brinjal, Capsicum, Okra | Thrips, Leafhoppers (Jassids), Whitefly nymphs | 1.0 – 1.25 ml | 200 – 250 ml |
Fruit & Horticulture | Mango, Grapes, Pomegranate, Watermelon | Mango hoppers, Thrips, Flea beetles | 1.0 – 1.25 ml | 200 – 250 ml (up to 300 ml in dense tree canopies with higher water volume) |
Optimal Spray Timing and Application Guidelines
Target Window: Apply at the early onset of hopper nymph emergence (typically when 5–10 hoppers per hill/plant are noticed), before severe hopper burn or sooty mold develops.
Target the Lower Canopy: Hoppers (especially BPH in paddy) congregate, feed, and lay eggs at the base of the plant stems near the water line. Direct the spray wand toward the lower third of the crop canopy rather than just dusting the top foliage.
Drain Excess Water (Paddy): If applied in flooded rice fields, drain standing water slightly prior to spraying so the spray mist reaches the tillers and base stems directly.
Time of Day: Spray in the early morning (before high temperatures set in) or late evening.
Spray Equipment: Use a high-pressure motorized sprayer or a manual knapsack sprayer fitted with a hollow-cone nozzle to ensure fine, penetrating droplet coverage.
Key Safety Precautions
Pollinator Warning (Bees): Fipronil is toxic to honeybees. Avoid spraying during active bloom or mid-day peak foraging hours. Apply early in the morning or post-sunset if flowering overlaps with pest pressure.
Aquatic Toxicity: Highly toxic to aquatic organisms, fish, and freshwater shrimp. Maintain a protective buffer from irrigation ponds, canals, and fish-cum-paddy farming plots. Never wash spray tanks in surface water bodies.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear chemical-resistant gloves, a filtration mask or respirator, protective eyewear, and long-sleeved clothing during handling, mixing, and field spraying.
Tank Mix Compatibility: Benzilla is compatible with most standard neutral fungicides and biostimulants. Do not mix with strongly alkaline products (like copper hydroxide, lime sulfur, or Bordeaux mixture). Always perform a jar test before tank-mixing.
