FMC Centaurus is a broad-spectrum, dual-action fungicide formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC). By pairing the systemic triazole Tebuconazole (6.7%) with the multi-site contact protectant Captan (26.9%), Centaurus offers protective, curative, and eradicative activity against complex fungal diseases, while significantly reducing the risk of pathogen resistance.
Technical Profile & Mode of Action
Tebuconazole 6.7% (Systemic Action): Belongs to the DMI (Demethylation Inhibitor) class. It is absorbed rapidly by green tissues and translocated acropetally (upward). It inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes, stopping fungal growth from within and providing curative control against early infections.
Captan 26.9% (Multi-Site Contact Action): Acts as a multi-site protectant by interfering with several cellular enzymes and respiratory pathways of fungi. It forms a protective barrier on the plant surface, preventing spore germination and pathogen entry.
SC Formulation Advantage: The water-based Suspension Concentrate ensures ultra-fine particle dispersion, uniform leaf coverage, superior rainfastness, and low risk of scorching or fruit russeting.
Crop Spectrum, Target Diseases & Dosage
Crop Category | Representative Crops | Target Diseases | Dosage per Litre of Water | Dosage per Acre (in 150–200 L Water) |
Commercial Crops | Cotton, Groundnut, Soybean | Leaf spot (Cercospora), rust, tikka disease, anthracnose, early blight | 2.5 – 3.0 ml | 500 – 600 ml |
Vegetable Crops | Chilli, Tomato, Potato, Onion, Cucurbits | Fruit rot / Anthracnose, dieback, early blight, purple blotch, alternaria leaf spot | 2.5 ml | 400 – 500 ml |
Fruit Crops | Apple, Grapes, Pomegranate, Mango | Apple scab, powdery mildew, downy mildew (suppression), anthracnose, black rot | 2.5 – 3.0 ml | 500 – 600 ml |
Horticulture & Floriculture | Rose, Marigold, Polyhouse Ornamentals | Black spot, anthracnose, leaf blights, powdery mildew | 2.0 – 2.5 ml | 350 – 450 ml |
Optimal Spray Timing
Prophylactic (Preventive) Application: Apply at the initial onset of favorable weather (high relative humidity, cloudy conditions, intermittent rain) or at the first appearance of disease spots.
Growth Stages: Ideal for application during pre-flowering, early fruit/pod formation, and fruit development stages when plant tissues are most vulnerable to rot and blights.
Time of Day: Spray during early morning hours (after dew has dried) or late afternoon. Avoid spraying in peak sunlight to prevent rapid droplet drying.
Spray Quality: Use flat fan or hollow-cone nozzles to ensure complete drenching of foliage, shoots, and fruit clusters.
Safety Precautions & Handling
Protective Gear (PPE): Wear a long-sleeved shirt, chemical-resistant nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and a face mask to prevent inhalation of mist and direct eye or skin contact.
Preparation: Shake the bottle thoroughly before measuring. Dilute the required dose in a small container of water first to create a uniform suspension before pouring it into the spray tank.
Phytotoxicity & Compatibility: Generally safe at recommended dosages. Avoid tank-mixing with strongly alkaline agrochemicals (such as Bordeaux mixture, lime sulfur) or alkaline foliar fertilizers.
Harvest Safety Interval (PHI): Maintain a waiting period of 7 to 14 days (depending on the specific crop) between the last spray and harvesting.
Storage & Disposal: Keep locked in its original container in a cool, well-ventilated storeroom away from food, animal feed, and sunlight. Triple-rinse empty bottles into the spray tank before puncturing and disposing of them safely.
