Tata Rallis Clasto (often spelled Calsto) is an advanced, novel-chemistry insecticide formulated as Pyrifluquinazon 20% WG (Water Dispersible Granules). Developed to manage stubborn sap-sucking pests—especially resistant whiteflies and aphids—it works by shutting down the insect's feeding behavior almost immediately upon contact or ingestion.
Technical Profile & Mode of Action
Active Ingredient: Pyrifluquinazon 20% WG
Chemical Class: Quinazolinone (IRAC Group 9B – Chordotonal organ TRPV channel modulators)
Dual Action: Contact and ingestion with strong translaminar activity (penetrates the leaf surface to control pests feeding on the underside).
Feeding Cessation ("Stop & Starve" Mechanism): Unlike conventional neurotoxins that cause violent twitching, Pyrifluquinazon disrupts the insect's chordotonal stretch receptor organs (responsible for balance and motion coordination). Within minutes of exposure, the insect's stylet/mouthparts become paralyzed. It drops its guard, stops sucking sap, cannot transmit viral pathogens, and eventually dies of starvation and dehydration within 1 to 3 days.
Anti-Viral Transmission: Because feeding stops within minutes, it is exceptionally valuable for halting vectors of devastating viral diseases, such as Cotton Leaf Curl Virus (CLCuV) and Chilli Leaf Curl Virus.
IPM & Pollinator Friendly: Highly selective against sucking pests while showing minimal disruption toward beneficial predatory mites, parasitoid wasps, and pollinating bees when applied as directed.
Crop Application, Target Pests & Dosage Chart
Crop Category | Crops | Target Pests Controlled | Recommended Dosage (per Liter) | Recommended Dosage (per Acre) | Water Volume (per Acre) |
Commercial Crops | Cotton | Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci—both nymphs & adults), Aphids, Jassids | 0.8 – 1.0 g / L | 160 – 200 g / acre | 150 – 200 Liters |
Vegetable Crops | Chilli, Tomato, Capsicum | Whitefly (Leaf Curl vector), Aphids, Thrips (suppression) | 0.8 – 1.0 g / L | 160 – 200 g / acre | 150 – 200 Liters |
Vegetable Crops | Okra, Brinjal, Cucurbits | Jassids, Whiteflies, Aphids | 0.8 – 1.0 g / L | 150 – 200 g / acre | 150 – 200 Liters |
Fruit & Horticulture Crops | Citrus, Grapes, Pomegranate | Citrus Psylla, Aphids, Whiteflies, Mealybug nymphs | 1.0 g / L | 200 – 250 g / acre | 250 – 300 Liters |
Ornamentals & Floriculture | Rose, Gerbera, Carnation | Whiteflies, Aphids | 0.8 – 1.0 g / L | 150 – 200 g / acre | 150 – 200 Liters |
Optimal Spray Timing
Target Window (ETL): Apply at the very first appearance of pest activity—specifically when whitefly counts cross economic thresholds (5–8 adults/leaf in cotton or chilli) or at the onset of initial leaf crinkling.
Time of Day: Spray in the early morning (before 9:00 AM) or late afternoon / evening (after 4:30 PM). Cooler hours ensure slower droplet drying and maximum leaf penetration.
Under-Leaf Spray Coverage: Whiteflies and aphids predominantly harbor on the undersides of leaves. Use a knapsack or motorized sprayer equipped with a hollow-cone nozzle angled upward to ensure complete canopy wetting.
Pre-mix Routine: Dissolve the WG granules in a separate small container of water first to create a uniform slurry before pouring it into the main spray tank.
Safety Precautions & Handling
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear a protective face mask, rubber/nitrile gloves, splash-proof goggles, and full-body clothing during handling and spraying. Avoid breathing spray mist.
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI):
Cotton: 21 days
Chilli & Tomato: 14 to 21 days
General Vegetables: 7 to 10 days
