Managing Sucking Pests
The leaf curling is caused by sap-sucking insects like aphids, whiteflies, or thrips, which drain the plant's vitality and stunt its growth.
Synthetic Insecticides (Distruptor, Osheen, Tag Hathiyar): These contain powerful active ingredients (such as Dinotefuran, Pyriproxyfen, and Bifenthrin) that target the insects' nervous systems. They are systemic, meaning they move through the plant to reach hidden pests.
Botanical Insecticides (Vijayneem): Contains Azadirachtin. This is a crucial component that acts as a repellent and growth regulator. It disrupts the insects' life cycle (molting and reproduction), preventing future generations from building up.
3. Boosting Plant Recovery (Nutrients)
A sick plant cannot feed itself effectively, so direct nutrition is necessary to help it recover.
Aries Boron 80: Boron is vital for maintaining cell wall strength and ensuring healthy flower and boll retention.
Agromin Max: This is a comprehensive mix of micronutrients (like Magnesium and Iron) that helps the plant resume photosynthesis, which is severely reduced when leaves are damaged or curled.
Tag Zinc: Helps trigger growth hormones in the plant to promote the development of new, healthy, non-curled leaves.
How to Implement This Control Strategy
Prioritize Coverage: Because many of these pests and fungi live on the undersides of the leaves, your spray must be very thorough. Use a nozzle that produces a fine mist to ensure complete coverage.
Rotate Your Chemicals: Never use the same insecticide or fungicide back-to-back. If you use a systemic product today, rotate to a different mode of action for the next spray to prevent the pests from becoming resistant to the chemicals.
Application Timing: Spray early in the morning or late in the evening. Avoid the heat of the day, as this can cause the chemicals to evaporate too quickly or even burn the stressed leaves.
Important Note: If you notice that the leaf curling persists even after applying these insecticides, it is possible your cotton has been infected by a virus (such as Cotton Leaf Curl Virus). Viruses cannot be cured by insecticides. In such cases, the best course of action is to remove and destroy the infected plants to prevent the spread to the rest of the field.
