Syngenta Curacron is a highly potent, time-tested, broad-spectrum organophosphate insecticide and acaricide. It is specifically designed to provide robust control over a wide array of stubborn chewing, biting, and sucking pests. Curacron is globally recognized for its ability to clear tough pest complexes where other conventional single-action molecules fail.
Technical Overview
Active Ingredient: Profenofos 50% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate).
Mode of Action: It is a Group 1B (Organophosphate) nerve poison that acts primarily through strong contact and stomach ingestion. When insects feed on or crawl across the treated foliage, their nervous system is disrupted, causing rapid paralysis followed by immediate knockdown.
Translaminar Penetration: Curacron features deep translaminar action, allowing the liquid to move from the upper leaf surface straight through to the underside. This eliminates hidden pests (like mites and thrips) that thrive out of reach of ordinary sprays.
Key Benefits
Powerful Ovicidal Action: Beyond killing adult insects and larvae, it possesses exceptional ovicidal activity that destroys insect eggs (especially lepidopteran eggs) upon contact, breaking the pest lifecycle before they can hatch and cause damage.
Built-in Mite Control (Acaricide): Curacron doubles as an effective miticide, making it an excellent all-in-one solution for managing the leaf-curling "Murda Complex" caused by simultaneous infestations of thrips and mites.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: It exhibits excellent emulsion stability and serves as a foundational tank-mix partner with other pyrethroids or new-generation insecticides to expand the spectrum of control.
Crop-Specific Uses & Dosages
For row crops, apply uniformly using a standard volume of 200 Liters of water per acre to ensure thorough canopy coverage.
Crop | Target Pests Controlled | Dosage per Acre | Dosage per Liter of Water | Waiting Period (PHI)* |
Cotton | Bollworm complex, Whiteflies (Adults), Jassids, Thrips, Mites, and Mealybugs | 800 to 1000 ml | 4 to 5 ml | 14 Days |
Chilli | Thrips, Mites (Leaf curl complex), and Aphids | 500 to 750 ml | 2.5 to 3.75 ml | 14 Days |
Onion | Onion Thrips | 500 ml | 2.5 ml | 14 Days |
Soybean | Girdle Beetle, Semi-loopers | 500 to 1000 ml | 2.5 to 5 ml | 14 Days |
*Note on PHI: The Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI) is the safety duration mandated between your final spray and crop harvest.
General Quick Suppression Dose: For early-stage general pest suppression or egg showers, a lower dose of 250 ml per acre (1.25 ml / Liter) can be targeted against specific moth eggs.
Application Best Practices
Mixing Restrictions: Curacron is compatible with most standard plant protection chemicals. However, do not mix it with highly alkaline formulations (such as Bordeaux mixture, Lime Sulfur, or alkaline liquid fertilizers), as alkalinity degrades the active organophosphate molecule.
Target Timing: Spray at the very first sign of pest threshold levels or during peak egg-laying phases to maximize the ovicidal action.
Toxicity & Safety: Curacron carries a high toxicity profile (Yellow label classification). It is vital to wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—including chemical-resistant gloves, a mask, and goggles. Avoid spraying during high winds to minimize chemical drift, and prevent application near open water or fish ponds.
