FMC Durmet is a broad-spectrum, cost-effective insecticide formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) containing Chlorpyrifos 20% EC. Belonging to the organophosphate chemical class, it delivers reliable control against a wide array of soil-dwelling pests, chewing insects, stem borers, and sucking pests across field and horticultural crops through multi-action contact, stomach, and fumigant (vapor) activity.
Mode of Action
Nerve Transmission Disruption (AChE Inhibition): Chlorpyrifos targets and inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE), an essential enzyme responsible for breaking down acetylcholine at nerve synapses. This causes continuous nerve transmission, leading to rapid insect paralysis, feeding cessation, and death.
Triple Action:
Contact Action: Kills insects instantly upon direct foliar contact or contact with treated soil.
Stomach Poisoning: Ingested when pests chew treated foliage, stems, or roots.
Fumigant / Vapor Action: Emits a localized vapor phase in confined soil spaces, reaching hidden subterranean pests like termites, cutworms, and white grubs.

Best Time and Conditions to Spray
Foliar Application: Apply during the early instars of pest infestation or immediately upon noticing leaf damage/cut seedlings.
Soil & Termite Treatments:
Sugarcane/Cotton setts: Apply directly in furrows over setts or seeds during sowing and cover with soil immediately to trap insecticidal vapor.
Termite/Grub control in standing crops: Apply via drip system, basin drenching, or broadcasting mixed with moist sand just before light irrigation.
Time of Day: Spray during the cool hours of early morning (before 9:30 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:30 PM) to avoid thermal degradation and protect beneficial daytime pollinators.
Moisture Requirements: Ensure adequate soil moisture prior to soil drenching so the formulation spreads evenly throughout the root profile.
Safety Precautions and Handling
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear full chemical-resistant gloves, a respirator or heavy face mask, long-sleeved clothing, boots, and protective eyewear. Chlorpyrifos has strong vapor pressure and can be absorbed through the skin and respiratory tract.
