Bayer Ethrel is a globally trusted, high-performance Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) containing Ethephon 39% SL (Soluble Liquid). It functions as a powerful ethylene-releasing agent. Ethylene is a natural plant hormone that controls growth, developmental stages, and aging processes in plants.
When applied, Ethrel is rapidly absorbed by the plant tissues and systemic translocation converts it into ethylene. This triggers targeted physiological changes such as uniform fruit ripening, accelerated color development, synchronized flowering induction, and latex stimulation.
Crop Uses Overview
Bayer Ethrel is utilized across various crop groups—including fruits, vegetables, plantation/commercial crops, and horticulture holdings—for specific physiological objectives:
Fruit & Horticulture Crops: Used for uniform ripening (mango, coffee), flower induction (pineapple, mango), alternate bearing management, and targeted defoliation (pomegranate).
High Yields Agro
Vegetable Crops: Used for post-harvest or targeted ripening acceleration (such as in tomatoes).
High Yields Agro
Commercial / Plantation Crops: Widely used in rubber plantations to stimulate and prolong latex flow from tapping panels.

Crop Usage & Dosage Table
Crop Category / Name | Application Purpose | Recommended Dosage per Liter of Water | Dosage per Acre (Foliar/Whorl) |
|---|---|---|---|
Mango (Fruit Crop) | Flower Induction & Alternate Bearing Management | 1 to 2 ml per liter | 200 – 500 ml / acre |
Mango & Tomato (Fruit / Vegetable) | Post-Harvest Ripening (Dip Treatment) | 1 ml per liter | Dip application (not acre-based) |
Pineapple (Horticulture / Fruit) | Uniform Flower Induction | 1 to 2 ml per liter | 200 – 500 ml / acre (or targeted central whorl application) |
Coffee (Commercial / Plantation) | Uniform Berry Ripening | 1 to 2.5 ml per liter | 200 – 500 ml / acre |
Pomegranate (Fruit / Horticulture) | Leaf Defoliation for Better Flowering Control | 1 to 2 ml per liter | 200 – 500 ml / acre |
Rubber (Commercial / Plantation) | Latex Yield Stimulation | 2 to 2.5 ml per liter (or paint/brush application) | 200 – 500 ml / acre |
Good Time to Spray / Apply
Weather Conditions: Apply during the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler and wind speeds are low to avoid rapid evaporation and drift.
Rain Safety: Do not spray if rainfall is expected within 4 to 6 hours of application, as wash-off will reduce effectiveness.
Crop Stage Timing:
Apply strictly when plants or fruits reach the target physiological maturity stage (e.g., mature-green stage for ripening). Do not apply on immature crops.

Safety Precautions to be Taken
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):Always wear protective rubber gloves, safety goggles, a face mask, and long-sleeved clothing while measuring and mixing the concentrate.
Avoid Higher Doses: Never exceed recommended rates to force quicker results; excessive concentrations can cause severe leaf drop, blossom burn, or plant phytotoxicity.
Corrosive Nature: Ethephon solutions are acidic and corrosive to metals. Do not leave the mixed spray solution sitting in metal containers for extended periods. Use plastic or non-corrosive spray equipment and rinse thoroughly after use.
Drift Management: Prevent spray mist from drifting onto neighboring sensitive crops or untreated blocks.
Hygiene & Handling: Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew tobacco during application. Wash exposed skin and contaminated clothing thoroughly with soap and water immediately afterward.
Storage: Store the product tightly sealed in its original container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space (below 35°C), completely away from food, animal feed, alkaline products, and out of reach of children and pets.
