Bayer Gaucho is an industry-leading, systemic seed-treatment insecticide containing Imidacloprid 600 FS (48% w/w) formulated as a Flowable Concentrate (FS). It belongs to the Neonicotinoid chemical class.
Unlike conventional foliar sprays, Gaucho is applied directly to seeds prior to sowing. Once the seed germinates, the active ingredient is absorbed systemically by the roots and moves upward into the growing plant tissues. It acts as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist in the insect central nervous system, effectively paralyzing and eliminating early-season sucking and soil pests. It provides robust protection for the critical first 30 to 40 days of crop growth, ensuring healthy stands, enhanced vigor, and reduced reliance on early foliar sprays.
Important Clarification on Crop Uses
Primary Registered Use: Bayer Gaucho is strictly formulated and labeled as a pre-sowing seed-dressing or seed-treatment product (such as for cotton, oilseeds, cereals, and vegetables).
Note on Broad Crop Categories (Commercial, Vegetables, Fruits & Horticulture): It is not a foliar spray or liquid to be sprayed over standing crops. Applying FS formulations directly as a leaf spray on mature commercial crops, fruits, or general horticulture fields is incorrect and ineffective; its utility is locked entirely into pre-plant seed protection and early soil-pest defense.

Soybean & Groundnut (Commercial / Oilseeds) | Jassids, Termites, Early sucking pests | Pre-sowing Seed Treatment | 1.25 to 2 ml per kg of seeds |
Sorghum, Maize & Pearl Millet (Cereal Crops) | Shoot Fly, Termites | Pre-sowing Seed Treatment | 10 to 12 ml per kg of seeds |
Wheat & Paddy (Rice) (Cereal Crops) | Aphids, Termites, Thrips | Pre-sowing Seed Treatment / Slurry | 2.5 to 3.5 ml per kg of seeds |

Good Time to Apply / Handle
Timing: Treatment must be executed strictly on the day of sowing.
Application Process: Mix the measured dose of Gaucho with a small quantity of clean water to form a uniform slurry. Pour it over the seeds in a container or seed-dressing drum and mix thoroughly until every seed is evenly coated without excess pooling.
Drying & Sowing: Spread and dry the treated seeds completely in the shade before planting them into the soil. Never apply as a direct spray on standing crops or use during open, heavy downpours.
Safety Precautions to be Taken
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear protective rubber gloves, a face mask, safety goggles, and full clothing when handling the concentrated liquid and mixing treated seeds.
Strictly No Consumption: Never use treated seeds, leftover grain, or seed bags for human food, cooking oil extraction, or animal feed. Clearly label containers holding treated seeds.
Handling Habits: Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew tobacco while mixing or managing seed treatments.
Post-Application Hygiene: Wash hands, exposed skin, and all mixing equipment thoroughly with soap and water immediately after work.
Environmental Protection: Imidacloprid is toxic to aquatic life and beneficial pollinators. Avoid dumping chemical wash water, runoff, or leftover slurry near water bodies, ponds, or drainage systems.
Storage: Store the product tightly sealed in its original container in a cool, dry, locked area, completely away from food supplies, animal feedstuffs, and out of reach of children.
