FMC Nutromax (often referred to as Nutomax) is a bio-fertilizer and soil inoculant formulated as Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM) 25% GR (Granules). Enriched with natural biostimulants including seaweed extract (Ascophyllum nodosum), humic acid, amino acids, and essential vitamins (C & E), it acts as an underground bridge between soil particles and the root system. The fungal spores form a symbiotic network of hyphae that dramatically expands root surface area, allowing crops to draw moisture and insoluble nutrients from deep soil zones.
Technical Composition & Mode of Action
VAM (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi): Spores germinate near living roots and colonize root epidermal and cortical cells. They send out extensive mycelial threads (hyphae) far beyond the normal rhizosphere, multiplying the plant's effective root absorptive zone.
Phosphorus & Zinc Mobilization: Secretes natural organic acids and phosphatases that solubilize locked-up, insoluble soil Phosphorus (P) and mobilize immobile micronutrients such as Zinc (Zn), Iron (Fe), and Calcium (Ca).
Drought & Soil Conditioning: The fungal hyphae absorb capillary water during moisture-stress periods while secreting glomalin, a natural glycoprotein that stabilizes soil structure, improves soil aeration, and boosts water-holding capacity.
Crop Usage & Scope
FMC Nutromax is suited for nearly all agricultural and horticultural crops:
Commercial & Cash Crops: Cotton, Sugarcane, Soybean, Groundnut, Wheat, Paddy (Rice), Mustard.
Benefits: Accelerates early seedling establishment, enhances tillering in cereals, and improves pod/boll setting.
Vegetable Crops: Tomato, Chilli, Brinjal, Capsicum, Potato, Onion, Okra, Cucurbits.
Benefits: Mitigates transplant shock, drives early root establishment, ensures balanced flowering, and increases tuber/fruit sizing.
Fruit & Plantation Crops: Pomegranate, Apple, Citrus, Mango, Banana, Grapes, Papaya.
Benefits: Establishes deep feeder roots in saplings, reduces physiological fruit drop, prevents fruit cracking under moisture stress, and improves skin finish.
Horticulture & Floriculture: Marigold, Rose, Gerbera, Chrysanthemum, Nursery Seedbeds.
Benefits: Promotes vigorous root branching in nurseries and improves flower stem strength and bloom size.
Recommended Dosage & Application Method
Because VAM is a granular (GR) biological soil inoculant, it is applied directly to the soil or root zone rather than sprayed foliarly on leaves:
Application Method | Recommended Dosage | Method of Use |
|---|---|---|
Field / Broad-Acre Soil Application | 4 kg to 5 kg per acre | Mix with 50–100 kg dry sand, compost/FYM, or starter chemical fertilizer (e.g., Urea/DAP) and broadcast uniformly. |
Banding / Furrow Placement | 4 kg per acre | Place granules along the seed furrows or directly in the planting line at sowing/transplanting. |
Fruit Trees / Perennial Plants | 30 g to 50 g per tree / basin | Apply in a shallow circular ring around the active feeder root zone, incorporate lightly into the soil, and irrigate. |
Nursery Bed / Potting Mix | 200 g to 300 g per 10 m2 (or 10–20 g per pot) | Incorporate thoroughly into the top 5–10 cm of potting soil prior to seed sowing. |
Ideal Time of Application
Growth Stage: Apply at sowing, seed placement, or during seedling transplanting (within 15 to 25 days of planting). Early application ensures the mycorrhizal spores colonize active white roots as soon as they emerge.
Moisture Requirement: Apply when the soil has adequate moisture or provide a light irrigation immediately following application. Soil moisture allows the bentonite granules to dissolve and disperse living spores into the rhizosphere.
Time of Day: Broadcast during the early morning or late afternoon to prevent high soil-surface temperatures from damaging the spores prior to irrigation.
Safety Precautions & Handling
Avoid Chemical Fungicides in Root Zone: Do not tank-mix or drench chemical fungicides (especially broad-spectrum systemic fungicides like Carbendazim, Hexaconazole, or Mancozeb) directly in the root zone within 7–10 days before or after applying VAM, as they can inhibit or destroy living mycorrhizal fungi.
Placement Depth: Always incorporate the granules below the surface into moist root zones. Avoid leaving granules exposed on dry, bare topsoil under harsh sun.
Compatibility: Fully compatible with farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost, biofertilizers (PSB, Trichoderma, Azotobacter), and conventional granular fertilizers.
