FMC Ovate is a premium, broad-spectrum contact fungicide powered by Chlorothalonil 75% WP (Wettable Powder). It delivers multi-site protective action by binding to the sulfhydryl (-SH) groups in fungal enzyme systems, which halts cellular respiration and completely suppresses spore germination and mycelial development. Because it attacks fungal pathogens at multiple biochemical sites, it has a very low risk of resistance development, making it an essential component of disease-management rotations and tank mixes.
Key Features & Benefits
Multi-Site Contact Action: Delivers reliable prophylactic (preventive) protection across target surfaces.
Resistance Management: Ideal partner product to rotate or tank-mix with single-site systemic fungicides (such as triazoles or strobilurins) to break resistance buildup.
Strong Weatherfastness: High retention and sticking ability on foliage, providing residual control even under humid and rainy conditions.
Broad Crop Safety: Safe across commercial field crops, fruiting orchards, and open or greenhouse vegetables when used at recommended doses.
Crop-Wise Dosage & Usage Guide
Crop Category | Major Target Crops | Target Diseases Controlled | Recommended Dosage (per Acre) | Water Volume |
Commercial & Oilseed Crops | Groundnut, Cotton, Tea | Tikka leaf spot, Rust, Alternaria leaf spot, Blister blight | 350 – 500 g | 150 – 200 Litres |
Vegetable Crops | Potato, Tomato, Chilli, Onion, Cole crops | Early blight, Late blight, Fruit rot (Anthracnose), Leaf spots, Downy mildew | 400 – 600 g | 150 – 200 Litres |
Fruit & Plantation Crops | Grapes, Apple, Watermelon, Citrus, Pomegranate | Downy mildew, Anthracnose, Scab, Black rot, Alternaria fruit spot | 500 – 800 g (or 2.0 – 2.5 g per Litre of water) | 250 – 400 Litres (canopy dependent) |
Horticulture & Ornamentals | Cucurbits, Beans, Floriculture (Rose, Marigold) | Powdery/Downy mildews, Rust, Septoria leaf spot | 350 – 500 g | 150 – 200 Litres |
Best Time to Spray
Prophylactic Stage (Preventive): Spray before symptom onset or immediately upon first notice of early disease flecks/lesions. Contact fungicides provide their highest economic return when forming a defensive barrier before the pathogen penetrates plant tissues.
Disease-Favorable Weather: Apply prior to prolonged cloud cover, persistent morning dew, or light intermittent rains.
Time of Day: Spray during the early morning (before 10:00 AM) or in the late afternoon (after 4:00 PM) to avoid intense midday heat, rapid droplet evaporation, or phytotoxicity on soft tender tissues.
Re-application Window: Re-apply every 10 to 14 days under normal conditions, shortening the interval to 7 to 10 days during peak disease pressure or rapid canopy expansion.
Safety Precautions & Handling Instructions
Pre-Slurry Preparation: Always pre-mix the required quantity of Ovate 75% WP into a small bucket with clean water to form a smooth slurry before pouring it through the sprayer strainer into the tank. Maintain continuous agitation.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear a protective face mask, goggles, nitrile gloves, and full-sleeve clothing. Chlorothalonil can cause skin irritation or eye discomfort in concentrated form.
Application Caution: Do not spray against the wind or under gusty conditions to prevent physical drift onto non-target crops or water bodies.
Aquatic Toxicity: Chlorothalonil is toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Avoid spraying near open ponds, fish hatcheries, or irrigation channels; never wash spray tanks or disposal vessels near natural water sources.
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): Allow an interval of at least 7 to 14 days (depending on specific crop mandates) between the final spray and harvesting produce for consumption.
