Tagban 50% EC is a commercial insecticide brand (manufactured by Tropical Agro System) containing Chlorpyriphos 50% EC as its active ingredient.

It is a broad-spectrum, high-strength organophosphate insecticide widely used for both foliage-feeding insect management and soil pest control (especially termites and grubs).

Technical Profile

  • Active Ingredient: Chlorpyriphos (50% w/w)

  • Chemical Group: Organophosphate

  • Formulation: Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC)

  • Mode of Action: Triple-action mechanism—Contact, Stomach, and Fumigant/Vapor action. It inhibits acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymes in the pest's nervous system, causing breakdown of nerve signal transmission and rapid mortality.

Key Benefits & Uses

  1. Triple Action Control: The unique vapor action allows the chemical to penetrate dense crop canopies, soil pockets, and hidden crevices where pests hide.

  2. Soil & Termite Control: Highly effective as a soil drench or barrier treatment against termites, root grubs, cutworms, and root-boring pests.

  3. Foliage Protection: Controls hard-to-kill pests like stem borers, leaf folders, and caterpillars in major field crops.

Application & Dosage Guidelines

  • Soil Drenching / Termite Control: 2 to 3 mL per liter of water, thoroughly soaking the soil root zone or around structural foundations.

  • Timing: Apply at the first sign of pest appearance or prior to sowing/planting for soil treatment.

Safety & Precautions

  • Toxicity: Highly toxic to fish, aquatic organisms, and birds. Do not let runoff enter ponds or water streams.

  • Pollinators: Avoid spraying during active crop bloom to protect honeybees.

  • Protection: Always wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective goggles, and a safety mask during mixing and spraying.
