FMC Talstar (Bifenthrin 10% EC) is a broad-spectrum, synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and miticide. It delivers quick knockdown and extended residual control against sucking pests, chewing caterpillars, and phytophagous mites across field, commercial, vegetable, and horticultural crops.
Technical Overview & Mode of Action
Active Ingredient: Bifenthrin 10% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate)
Chemical Group: Synthetic Pyrethroid (IRAC Group 3A)
Action Mechanism: Contact and stomach action. It modulates voltage-gated sodium channels along the insect’s nerve membranes, causing repetitive nerve impulses, paralysis, and rapid death.
Dual Action: Controls both insects and mites simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate acaricide tank mix in many cases.

Best Time and Conditions to Spray
Timing of Day: Spray during the early morning (6:00 AM – 9:00 AM) or late afternoon/evening (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM) when temperatures are moderate. Avoid spraying under hot midday sun to minimize chemical volatilization and plant stress.
Pest Threshold: Apply at the initial appearance of pest infestation or economic threshold level (ETL) before the population establishes dense colonies.
Canopy Coverage: Bifenthrin acts mainly by contact; use hollow-cone nozzles and ensure thorough coverage on the underside of foliage where mites and sucking insects shelter.
Weather Constraints: Do not spray if heavy rainfall is expected within 3–4 hours or during high wind conditions (above 10 km/h) to prevent spray drift.
