FMC Tuventa is an ultra-concentrated, broad-spectrum insecticide formulated as Chlorantraniliprole 47.85% w/w SC (Suspension Concentrate). Powered by FMC's proprietary Rynaxypyr active (Anthranilic Diamide group / IRAC Group 28), Tuventa provides enhanced potency over standard formulations (like Coragen 18.5% SC), delivering control over lepidopteran caterpillars and stem/shoot borers at micro-doses.
Mode of Action: Ryanodine Receptor Modulation
Targeting Ryanodine Receptors: Chlorantraniliprole binds selectively to ryanodine receptors in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of insect muscle cells.
Immediate Feeding Cessation: This binding causes unregulated release of internal calcium ion ($Ca^{2+}$) stores, leading to rapid muscle paralysis. Pests cease feeding within minutes (< 7 minutes), preventing further tissue chewing and crop damage long before physical mortality occurs (within 24–72 hours).
Translaminar & Ovi-Larvicidal Activity: It penetrates leaf laminas via translaminar action to kill larvae feeding on untreated surfaces and shows activity against freshly laid insect eggs and newly hatched neonates.
Crop Greening Effect: Plants often display an extended greening effect, enhanced tillering, and improved root vigor following treatment.
Crop Spectrum, Target Pests & Recommended Dosage
Due to its high concentration (47.85% SC), Tuventa requires low per-acre dosages. Always ensure proper water volume (150–200 L/acre) for uniform field distribution.
Crop Category | Representative Crops | Target Pests | Dosage per Liter | Dosage per Acre (in ~200 L water) | Application Remarks |
Cereal & Field Crops | Paddy (Rice), Maize (Corn) | Yellow stem borer, Leaf folder, Fall Armyworm (FAW), Pink stem borer | 0.10 – 0.15 ml | 20 – 30 ml | In rice, apply at active tillering/panicle stage; in maize, direct into the whorl |
Commercial Crops | Cotton, Sugarcane, Soybean | American bollworm, Spotted bollworm, Tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera), Early shoot borer, Top borer, Girdle beetle, Stem fly | 0.10 – 0.15 ml | 20 – 30 ml (Sugarcane drench: 40–50 ml in 400 L water) | Spray during square/boll formation in cotton; apply to the root/sett zone for sugarcane borers |
Pulses | Chickpea, Red gram (Pigeonpea), Green gram, Black gram | Pod borer (Helicoverpa), Spotted pod borer, Pod fly, Semilooper | 0.10 – 0.12 ml | 20 – 25 ml | Apply at flower bud emergence and early pod initiation |
Vegetable Crops | Chilli, Tomato, Brinjal, Cabbage, Okra | Fruit borer, Tobacco caterpillar, Diamondback Moth (DBM), Shoot & fruit borer | 0.10 – 0.15 ml | 20 – 25 ml (approx. 2–2.5 ml per 15L knapsack pump) | Apply at the first sign of flower/fruit borer infestation |
Fruit & Horticulture Crops | Grapes, Pomegranate, Citrus, Watermelon | Berry moth, Fruit borer, Caterpillar complex, Leafminer | 0.10 – 0.15 ml | 25 – 35 ml (scale water volume based on canopy size) | Spray during vegetative flushes and early fruit development |
Optimal Spray Timing and Application Guidelines
Target Early Instars: Apply at the egg-laying or early larval stage (1st to 2nd instar). Controlling borers before they bore into stems, bolls, or fruits ensures maximum efficacy.
Time of Day: Spray during early morning (before 10:00 AM) or late evening (after 4:30 PM) to avoid intense heat degradation and spray drift.
Rainfastness: Tuventa adheres strongly to foliage and becomes rainfast within 2 to 4 hours of application.
